Pakistan Denies Visa To Indian Diplomat

In yet another blow to the Indo-Pak bilateral ties, Pakistan denied granting visa to diplomat Jayant Khobragade today, reportedly on the grounds of seniority.

The move comes over a month after Pakistan expelled Indian High Commissioner Ajay Bisaria.

 Khobragade, who was appointed as India's chargé d'affaires in Islamabad in June this year, is an IFS officer of 1995 batch and has served in Pakistan earlier. Presently, he is the joint secretary in the Department of Atomic Energy.

Diplomatically, Pakistan doesn't have a say on whom India nominates as its ambassador. As such, this development is likely to downgrade the ties between the nations further.

India recently had slammed Pakistan for promoting cross-border terrorism and providing a safe haven for terrorists at the 45th session of Human Rights Council (HRC). As per media reports, the Indian representative had said, "Neither India nor others deserve this unsolicited lecture on human rights from a country that has consistently persecuted its ethnic and religious minorities, is an epicenter of terrorism, has the distinction of providing pensions to individuals on UN Sanctions list and has a Prime Minister who proudly admits training tens of thousands of terrorists to fight in Jammu and Kashmir."
