In Ajmer, the situation turned alarming near the revered Khwaja Garib Nawaz Dargah where multiple people were swept away by strong water currents. Dramatic visuals showed one devotee slipping near the Nizam Gate and being carried away by the flow. Fortunately, he was rescued by a local hotel staffer, eyewitnesses said.

According to a report, several others faced similar peril in the Dargah vicinity before being rescued by vigilant locals.

The relentless rainfall also caused a house collapse in Lakhan Kotdi area of Ajmer on Saturday morning. Police confirmed that the family living in the structure had moved out a day earlier after spotting dangerous cracks, preventing a potential tragedy.

In another major development, the Ana Sagar Lake in Ajmer has begun to overflow due to the continuous rain. Municipal authorities have deployed sandbags to manage the situation. Vinod Manohar, Chief Engineer of Ajmer Municipal Corporation, stated that waterlogging occurred as the lake’s outlets overflowed, prompting the opening of channel gates to ease the pressure.

State Records 126% Excess Rainfall

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said Rajasthan has received 126 per cent more rainfall than the seasonal average since June 1. Jaipur MeT Director Radhey Shyam Sharma stated that a depression over eastern Rajasthan is moving slowly westward and is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within hours.

While heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecasted in the Jodhpur division on Saturday, moderate to heavy showers are expected to persist in the Ajmer and Udaipur divisions. However, rainfall activity is likely to taper off in the Bharatpur, Jaipur, Kota, and Bikaner divisions starting Saturday, Sharma added.

A broader relief from intense rainfall is expected from Sunday onwards. Nevertheless, another round of heavy rain is anticipated around July 27–28, primarily over eastern Rajasthan.

Rainfall Highlights (Last 24 Hours, ending 8:30 AM Saturday):

  • Nainwa (Bundi) – 234.0 mm

  • Merta City (Nagaur) – 230.0 mm

  • Mangliawas (Ajmer) – 190.0 mm

  • Nasirabad (Ajmer) – 180.0 mm

  • Pratapgarh – 160.0 mm

With the state reeling under excess monsoon rains and urban drainage systems overwhelmed in many areas, authorities have urged residents to remain cautious, especially in low-lying regions and near water bodies.
