The Central Government has been issued a notice by the Supreme Court on pleas challenging the law of 10 percent reservation in jobs and education for economically weaker section of the general category.
"We are examining the matter and hence issuing notice returnable within four weeks," said the Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and also comprising Justice Sanjiv Khanna.
The Bill was passed at the Lok sabha and the Rajya Sabha on 12 January and became a law after the President gave his assent.
Organizations like Janhit Abhiyan and Youth For Equality filed pleas challenging the Center's decision. Congress leader Tehseen Poonawalla also filed one of the pleas challenging decision.
