Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday took oath as the 18th chief minister of Maharashtra, becoming the first Thackeray to ever hold an administrative post in the state.

Shiv Sena leaders Eknath Shinde and Subhash Desai have also taken oath as ministers. NCP's Jayant Patil and Chhagan Bhujbal have also taken oath.

The ceremony was attended by his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, DMK chief MK Stalin and party leader TR Baalu, Congress leader Ahmed Patel, NCP leader Praful Patel, and BJP leader and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, among others.

Uddhav Thackeray will hold the first Cabinet meeting of the new alliance government around 8 pm. The development was confirmed by NCP leader Jayant Patil at a press conference of the 'Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi'. "The first Cabinet meeting of our government will be held later today," said Patil.
