The Supreme Court has raised hard comments upon the ED (Enforcement Directorate) on Monday (July 21) the apex court asked the ED why it was being used for "political battles". This question came in a case involving Karnataka CM, Siddharamiah.
The SC today refused to entertain the ED's appeal against the Karnataka High Court quashing the summons against Karnataka CM Siddaramiah's wife BM Parvati and State Minister Byrathi Suresh in connection with alleged illegal allotment of sites by the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
The observations and rejection came from the bench of CJI (Chief Justice of India) Mr. B R Gavai. As soon as the matter was taken up, the CJI bench, also comprising Justice K Vinod Chandran expressed disinclination to entertain the matter.
CJI told Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, "Mr.Raju, please don't ask us to open our mouths. Otherwise, we will be forced to make some harsh comments about the ED. Unfortunately, I have some experience in Maharashtra. You don't perpetuate this violence across the country now. Let the political battles be fought before the electorate. Why are you being used as a...?"
The Court dismissed the matter with the observations-- "We do not find any error in the reasoning adopted in the approach of the learned single judge. In the peculiar facts and circumstances of the case, we dismiss it." "We should thank you ASG for saving some harsh comments," CJI told the ASG after dictating the order.
Worth mentioning that in March 2025, the High Court had quashed the summons issued by the ED against Parvati and Suresh.
