Clouds Gather Over Northeast: IMD Warns of Thunder, Lightning & Heavy Rain

The Northeast is set to witness widespread rainfall over the next 24 hours, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting moderate rain at most places across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram, and at many places in Tripura.

A 3 to 4°C rise in maximum temperatures is likely in Assam, leading to hot and humid conditions, especially across the Brahmaputra Valley. However, no significant temperature changes are expected in the rest of the northeastern states.

Severe Weather Alerts Issued

The IMD has also issued the following weather warnings for the region:

  1. Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely at isolated places in all seven northeastern states, including Tripura.

  2. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated locations in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Nagaland.

  3. Heavy rain may occur at isolated places in Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura.

Guwahati Forecast

Locally in Guwahati and surrounding areas, residents can expect a generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach 33°C, while the minimum will hover around 26°C.

The public is advised to stay alert for sudden weather changes, especially those residing in flood-prone or landslide-sensitive areas. Travelers should monitor updates and plan accordingly.
