Both accused, Bikash Das and Bipin Kumar Pandey, in the rape and murder of a student of Assam Agricultural University (AAU) named Radha Kumari in Simaluguri and a middle aged woman named Lalima Devi in Mariani had been arrested on Friday.
After the arrests of the two, the details of the crimes, in their confessions they made, sent chill down one's spine.
The student after taking her seat in the train, started to read a novel when Das dragged her down and tied her hands and feet to rape her. Later, Das with Pandey's help dragged her to the toilet and strangled her with a gamusa.
In an attempt to speed up the deed, Pandey thrashed her face against the walls of the toilet and made sure she was dead.
The police including GRP and RPF had handled the case quite tactically in order to catch hold of the accused who had already made a blueprint of their third crime.
They have recovered the phone, some amount of money and earrings belonging to Radha Kumari and anklets and some amount of money belonging to Lalima Devi from a bag that Bikash Das had been carrying along with him.
On Saturday, MLA Pramila Rani Brahma visited the residence of Radha Kumari in Sivasagar. Brahma has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the bereaved family. The amount would be given from the Social Welfare Department.
Speaking about the crimes, Brahma said that the accused should be given the severe form of punishment possible.
