Google CEO Sundar Pichai questions Trump’s visa ban
Updated on

Expressing disapproval over Donald Trump's decision to ban the issue of H-1B visa, along with few other foreign visas till the end of the year, CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai has questioned the efficacy of the President proclamation, which is considered an attempt to protect the interests of the domestic workforce in the face of the alleged threat being brought by foreign workers.

Pichai, an Indian-born himself, took to twitter to assert the role being played by immigrants, over the years, in the economic success of the USA. He also underscored that the immigration policy of the country has had a huge contribution in making the USA a global leader in technology.

The Google CEO, who was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, also observed that the contribution of the immigrants has gone a long way to make Google the company it is today.

He tweeted, "Immigration has contributed immensely to America's economic success, making it a global leader in tech, and also Google the company it is today. Disappointed by today's proclamation – we'll continue to stand with immigrants and work to expand opportunity for all."

Earlier, POTUS, through a presidential proclamation, had put an embargo on the issue of a few vital immigrant visas till the end of the year. Trump said that the decision was taken in national interest, necessitated by the havoc being wreaked by the pandemic on the employment levels.

Although he admitted the efficacy of such visa-programmes under normal circumstances, in adverse situations like this, he said, such programmes fall flat.
