Just a month after the rig explosion in Bhatiyapar, another alarming incident has come to light, this time in Joysagar under Assam’s Sivasagar district.
A sudden gush of crude oil has erupted from underground at Jonaki Nagar in Joysagar, an area falling under the Rudrasagar oil field. Sources informed that the leak occurred within the kitchen of a private residence belonging to Krishna Das, a former employee of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). The eruption has left locals shocked and concerned about safety in the area.
What’s more troubling is that even after nearly four hours of the incident, no ONGC official had reached the site. According to reports, a large, tunnel-like hole formed inside the kitchen, from which crude oil began to spray out forcefully. Residents also reported mild tremors just before the oil started gushing out.
The crude oil has already damaged several household items and flooded parts of the property, causing distress to the affected family.
Upon receiving information, state fire and emergency services rushed to the site. Meanwhile, locals are growing increasingly anxious, fearing further risks from underground oil activity in the residential area.
