India’s electronics exports have witnessed a remarkable surge, crossing the USD 40 billion mark, an eight-fold increase over the past 11 years, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. The union minister highlighted the country's accelerating strides in electronics manufacturing and digital infrastructure.

"In just 11 years, we have increased our electronics production six times. That's a CAGR double digit which any corporate would be envious of. We have increased our exports eight times, crossed USD 40 billion exports in electronics manufacturing, which is a phenomenal pace of growth, something which very few countries of our size have ever seen," said Vaishnaw, who holds the portfolios of Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT.

He attributed this impressive growth to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, crediting focused policy interventions and strategic investments that have transformed India's electronics ecosystem. Domestic electronics production, too, has expanded six-fold during the same period, reinforcing India’s emergence as a global electronics hub.

Vaishnaw also pointed to the progress in telecom technology, noting that in just three and a half years, India successfully designed and deployed a complete 4G telecom stack, which is now operational on nearly 90,000 telecom towers—more than the total network size of many countries.

Looking ahead, the minister outlined several ambitious milestones, including the launch of India's first commercial-scale semiconductor chip by the end of this year. He expressed confidence in India's trajectory to become one of the top five semiconductor nations globally, driven by a growing focus on capital equipment and essential materials for semiconductor fabrication.

Vaishnaw also provided an update on the country's flagship infrastructure project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train, stating that the nation’s first high-speed rail corridor is expected to become operational by August or September 2027.
