India’s evacuation efforts under Operation Sindhu continue at full pace, with another batch of 290 Indian nationals and one Sri Lankan citizen safely returning home from conflict-hit Iran.
The special flight landed in New Delhi late Saturday night, marking another successful leg of the government’s large-scale repatriation mission.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, received the evacuees at the airport and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safe return of all Indian nationals stranded in the region. “India’s evacuation efforts continue under #OperationSindhu,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a post on X.
The latest arrival brings the total number of Indians evacuated from Iran to 1,713. With additional arrivals expected on Monday, the cumulative figure has crossed 2,000, according to official data.
Among those rescued was Fatima Iman, a Sri Lankan national, who expressed her gratitude to the Indian authorities. “I am grateful for everything. The experience was very smooth,” she said.
The newly evacuated group included people from various states, including Bihar, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Jammu & Kashmir.
Margherita also announced that three more evacuation flights from Iran are scheduled over the next few days. Additionally, 162 Indians currently in Jordan—having crossed over from Israel—are expected to be repatriated soon.
Operation Sindhu has also facilitated the evacuation of 604 Indian nationals from Israel through alternative routes via Jordan and Egypt. The first group of 161 evacuees from this corridor is set to arrive in Delhi early on June 24.
