Addressing senior officials from participating ministries, Goyal highlighted the schemes’ impact on boosting domestic manufacturing and employment across key sectors. He also stressed the need to sharpen India’s global competitiveness, enhance export capabilities, and focus on sectors where the country holds a comparative advantage.

As of March 2025, cumulative incentives worth ₹21,534 crore have been disbursed across 12 major sectors under the PLI framework. These include large-scale electronics manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, IT hardware, automobiles, medical devices, bulk drugs, textiles, telecom, food processing, drones, specialty steel, and white goods.

The total investment under the scheme has reached ₹1.76 lakh crore, Goyal noted, adding that the PLI initiatives have not only encouraged domestic production but also helped boost exports and self-reliance in several sectors.
The pharma sector has emerged as one of the top performers, recording ₹2.66 lakh crore in cumulative sales—of which ₹1.7 lakh crore came from exports. The food processing sector has also made significant gains, generating employment for over 3.4 lakh individuals. In the bulk drugs segment, India has transitioned from being a net importer to a net exporter, while millet procurement by PLI beneficiaries has increased nearly fourfold in the last two years.

Looking ahead, Goyal urged ministries to prepare a detailed five-year roadmap to accelerate both investment inflow and incentive disbursement. He also stressed the need to address infrastructure bottlenecks in partnership with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC) and to develop a highly skilled talent pool to support industrial growth.

The PLI scheme, announced in 2021 with a total outlay of ₹1.97 lakh crore for 14 strategic sectors, is a cornerstone of the government’s “Atmanirbhar Bharat” vision and a critical push towards making India a global manufacturing hub.
