A Pakistani journalist was dramatically swept away by powerful floodwaters during a live broadcast near Chahan Dam in Rawalpindi, as relentless monsoon rains continue to devastate large parts of the country. The harrowing moment, captured on camera and widely shared across social media platforms, has sparked both concern and controversy.
In the viral footage, the reporter can be seen standing in neck-deep water, microphone in hand, attempting to deliver a live report on the worsening flood situation. Moments later, the surging current overpowers him, pulling him under — with only his head and raised hand gripping the microphone visible before he disappears beneath the water.
The video has ignited intense reactions online. While many viewers praised the reporter’s courage and commitment to his job, others sharply criticised the decision to report from such a perilous location, calling it a reckless risk for the sake of dramatic footage.
The incident comes as Pakistan reels under the impact of catastrophic rains that began on June 26. As per reports, so far, at least 116 people have died and more than 250 have been injured across the country. Punjab province has been the worst hit, with 44 fatalities, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (37), Sindh (18), and Balochistan (19). Pakistan Occupied Kashmir has also reported one death and five injuries.
