Talking about the relations between India and Vietnam in his maiden visit to the country, Thanh addressed the media and said, "Both India and Vietnam have developing countries and have the best economies in the world. We want to diversify our economic relations especially trade with several countries especially India which is a huge market and has scores of investors."

He also stated that currently the trade between the two countries is only USD 7.6 billion as compared to trading with the other countries which is USD 420 billion. He added that the Vietnamese economy was growing at 6.8 per cent in 2017 and that he believed that in 2018 India will register growth at 7.3 per cent to 7.5 percent.

The envoy opined that along with cooperation in politics and defense, both New Delhi and Hanoi need to come together and develop relations in sectors such as education, science, and technology, citing the recent visit undertaken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to Vietnam.

Thanh concluded his address by saying that Vietnam and India would develop their relations further in 2018. He also mentioned that President Ram Nath Kovind and Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj are scheduled to visit Vietnam in August.
