30% of jail inmates COVID-19 infected: HBS

The health minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited the Guwahati Central Jail to review the COVID-19 situation which has been declared a containment zone for the second time.

The minister while assessing the situation informed 30 percent of around 500 inmates in the jail, i.e. 150 inmates, tested positive. The minister denied allegations such as 95 percent of the cases were positive, saying that in the last two days, about 50 to 60 people had tested positive. Today, only three were found to be positive.

The minister also said that all the inmates of the prison, besides all the staff and police personnel, will be examined regularly and added around 911 prisoners will be tested further.
