CMSS Observes 36-Hour Hunger Strike in Golaghat

The ChattraMukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS), Golaghat unit has observed a 36-hours hungerstrike near Golaghat Deputy Commissioner's office demanding security of thefuture of the students of Golaghat Engineering College (GEC) and to establish itas a full-fledged college.

On July 26, the All Assam Students' Union, Golaghat unit has also stageda protest against the shutting down of the college and also burnt the effigy ofstate education minister.

The AASU has staged the protest in front of Golaghat DeputyCommissioner's office and seeks immediate intervention of the Chief Ministeragainst the shutting down of the college.

It maybe mentioned that the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) hasdirected the GEC authority to shut down the institution with immediate effecton July 22 and directed GEC to distribute the students among five engineeringcolleges in the state while the GEC authority is gearing up for its nextacademic session.

92students of the college are facing a bleak future as the AICTE has instructedto shut down the college with immediate effect.

Moreover,the AASU unit of Golaghat has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Ministerand five MLAs of Golaghat district through the deputy commissioner demandingrevival of the college.

Meanwhile,the college authorities have also started the process of starting the ongoingclasses from August 1 although the college has closed down new admissionprocedure as it has not been approved by AICTE.
