Dibrugarh: Truck Carrying Cows Seized in NH 37

The cow syndicate is still continuing unabated in Upper Assam and theNational Highway No 37 has turned into the corridor of syndicate. The Dibrugarhpolice on Sunday night have seized a truck carrying large numbers of cow in thenational highway.

The police have seized the truck bearing number AS-23BC-5339 atGabharupathar in Dibrugarh which carried 33 cows during its regular searchoperation. The operation has been carried under the leadership of Officerin-charge of Lahowal Police station Hrishikesh Hazarika and seized the truckwhen it tried to escape from the scene. Police also arrested the truck driverShabir Khan, Ashraf Ali and Safror Khan.

It has been informed by police that Janaik Haider of Chabua and JanaikPapu of Tengakhat were taking the cows to Guwahati when the police seized thetruck along with the cows.

It may be mentioned that the cattle syndicate in rising at an alarmingrate and the national highways have become the corridor of illegal business.Locals also alleged that cattle smugglers have been able to smuggle the cows aslocal organizations help them to pass through the national highways in lieu oftaking commission. It has also been alleged by the locals that it is not onlycattle but also coal, wood have also been smuggled through the nationalhighways.
