A toran dwar (welcome gate) erected during Durga Puja in Karimganj town collapsed on Monday night bringing traffic on the busy Main Road to a standstill for nearly half an hour.

Maha Navami was celebrated with great religious fervour and gaiety across Karimganj with thousands thronging the opulently decorated puja pandals on Monday.

Heavy rains in some parts of the state failed to dampen the spirits of the people, but strong winds led to the collapse of a bamboo gate near a puja pandal in Karimganj.

No one was injured in the incident.
