Supari mafia leads Assam Police: Akhil

Peasant leader Akhil Gogoi has made sensational allegationsagainst the Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal that the supari mafiasare carrying on illegal supari syndicate (betel nut) right under the nose of CMSonowal.

The Krishak Mukti Sangram chief, Gogoi, who had long beenvocal about various alleged syndicates operating in the state on Saturday askedSonowal to clear his stand by commenting on the same and further alleged CMSonowal of being silent despite being aware of the syndicates.

As per reports, a Central Government revenue intelligenceteam of Nagpur visited the residence of supari mafia Abdul Hannan alias Bablufor investigation. In the meantime, local people allegedly gheraoed the teamfor several hours and disrupted the search.

Alleging supports to the racketeers from high officials inpolice, Gogoi said, "Hannan does all that under the protection of Golaghatpolice and Supari mafia leads the police administration of Golaghat".

Notably, various allegations were raised several timesagainst supari businessman Abdul Hannan alias Bablu for running a suparisyndicate in Assam. It has been alleged that supari is imported from Myanmar toGolaghat and supplied to the other States of India without paying taxes to thegovernment. To investigate the matter, the team of the Directorate of RevenueIntelligence reached Golaghat and visited the businessman's residence forinquiry.
