Tezpur University gets full-fledged Assamese Dept.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has accepted the demand of the Assam Sahitya Sabha for establishment of a full-fledged Assamese Department in Tezpur central University.

The Department will start functioning from the next academic session.

During the last assembly session, senior AGP leader Pabindra Deka (MLA of Patacharkuchi constituency) pushed the state government for making Assamese language one of the required languages in Tezpur central university and Silchar Assam University as he lamented that Assamese language could not get its desired place in its native land probably due to regional politics.
