Mamata Banerjee will not attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today confirmed that she won't attend the swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi on May 30 in New Delhi.

Mamata Banerjee saidthat circumstances have changed her mind to attend the constitutionalinvitation of PM Modi's swearing-in ceremony.

In a tweet onWednesday, Banerjee said, "In the last one hour, I am seeing media reports thatthe BJP is claiming 54 people have been murdered in political violence inBengal. This is completely untrue and there have been no political murders inBengal. There is no record with us. Sorry this has compelled me not to attendthe ceremony."

Meanwhile, Mamata'sdecision has been slammed by BJP saying that shw was just skipping the eventover the party's decision to invite families of workers killed in the violence.

Earlier, Mamata saidthat she has spoken to a couple of other chief ministers and she has decided toattend the swearing-in ceremony saying that there are certain ceremonialprogrammes under the Constitution and they try to attend such events when theyget an invitation for the swearing-in programmes of the President and PrimeMinister.
