‘Rising Kashmir’ Editor Shujaat Bukhari and his two PSOs shot dead in Srinagar

Veteran journalist and editor-in-chief of English daily 'Rising Kashmir' Syed Shujaat Bukhari was shot down along with his two Personal Security Officers at around 7 pm on 14th June, 2018.

The incident occurred when four unidentified gunmen opened fire upon their vehicle in Press Enclave, Srinagar. So far, no militant group has taken responsibility for the attack.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has condemned the killing as an act of cowardice. "It is an attempt to silence the saner voices of Kashmir" he tweeted.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore, in a tweet, called the assassination- a brutal attack on freedom of press.

"Our fearless media is one of the greatest strength of our democracy and we are committed to provide a safe and conducive working environment to media persons" he added.

His mortal remains were laid to rest at his ancestral graveyard in North Kashmir's Baramulla district today.
