EC accuses NITI Aayog VC of violating Poll Code

The Election Commission has accused the NITI Aayog vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar of violating the Model Code of Conduct by speaking against the Congress's NYAY.

Issuing a letter to Kumar, EC said, "The commission has considered your reply and has not found the same to be satisfactory,".

"Public Servants should not only be impartial in their conduct but also in their public utterances, which was found wanting in the instant case," added the letter.

"The Commission has decided to convey its displeasure to you for your comments and expects that you shall exercise caution in future," it said.

In reply to the Election Commission, Kumar told the poll body that his remark against Congress's NYAY scheme was made as an economist and not as part of the policy body.

It may be noted that Rajiv Kumar accusing the Congress of promising more than it can provide to win elections, taking to Twitter said, "The proposed income guarantee scheme fails the economics test, fiscal discipline test and execution test."

The NITI Aayog VC in another tweet had claimed that "true to its past record of promising the moon to win elections, Congress President announces a scheme that will bust fiscal discipline, create strong incentives against work and which will never be implemented."
