Maruti Suzuki recalls over 40,000 units of WagonR

On Friday, Maruti Suzuki India Limited announced to voluntarily undertake a recall campaign for certain WagonR (1 litre) vehicles manufactured between 15th November 2018 and 12th August 2019. Maruti will inspect 40,618 vehicles of WagonR (1 litre) for a possible issue of fuel hose fouling with metal clamp, India's biggest car maker said in a statement.

Starting24th August 2019 owners of the suspected vehicles will be contacted by MarutiSuzuki dealers for inspection and replacement of the faulty parts, free ofcost, the car maker said.

Alternatively,customers of suspected Maruti WagonR (1 litre) vehicles can visit the companywebsite and fill in the chassis number (MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numericnumber) to check if their vehicle needs any attention.

Thechassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicleinvoice/registration documents.

Automakersundertaken recall campaigns globally to rectify faults that may be potentialsafety defects. The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India is pinninghopes on the festive season for a turnaround in the auto industry.

Automobile sales in India witnessed its sharpest decline in nearly 19 years in July, dropping 18.71%. Overall, passenger vehicle sales slumped by 30.98% to 2, 00,790 units as compared with 2,90,931 units in the same month last year. It was the ninth month of consecutive decline.

Maruti Suzuki shares were up 1% today in afternoon trade, outperforming the Sensex, which was up 0.83%.
