Cinema lovers of this country will be delighted to experience Australian classics, children's films and documentaries in upcoming film festivals in the country as the country has decided to screen its films in India's film festivals.

"I am delighted that we could share Australian stories through the diverse range of films presented as part of our Australia Fest film showcase. I hope that Indian audiences will enjoy them," Australian High Commissioner to India Harinder Sidhu said on Friday.

Australia will be the focus country at the 24th edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) next month when many award-winning Australian films will be screened and some of the country's celebrated filmmakers will be there to showcase their work, the statement said.

Four award-winning films – 'Gurrumul', 'Lost and Found', 'Brothers Nest' and 'Trespass' – will feature in the Delhi International Film Festival.

Critically acclaimed children's short animation – The Lost Thing – will be presented in the Jio MAMI Film Festival and the Chennai International Film Festival will screen some important feature and short films produced in Australia in recent years. Those include 'Breath' and 'What if it Works'.

Mitu Bhowmick Lange, who curated the films to be shown in film festivals in India, said, "we are honored to present a rich selection of Australian films that showcase one of the world's most diverse, robust and unique film industry."
