Pop Singer Honey Singh has been booked by Punjab police on the charge of using vulgar lyrics against women along with music producer Bhushan Kumar in their latest song.
The PunjabState Women Commission has lodged a complaint which sought action against himfor allegedly using vulgar lyrics against women in the song.
The casehas been registered at the Mataur police station in Punjab's Mohali district.
The rapperhas been booked under section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmittingobscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology Act, 2000and relevant section of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act,1986.
ManishaGulati, Chairperson of the women panel had earlier written to the state homesecretary, Director General of Police, Punjab and the inspector general ofpolice (crime) demanding appropriate action against the singer.
Gulati saidthat they have asked the police to register an FIR against the singer for usingvulgar lyrics against women in his song "Makhna." The panel had also asked thepolice to submit status report in the matter by July 12.
The womenpanel also demanded to ban the song which has an objectionable lyrics againstwomen.
