TheBihar Police on Wednesday decided to close the sedition case against 50acclaimed artists and intellectuals who wrote a letter to Prime MinisterNarendra Modi. The celebrities in their letter sought PM Modi's interventionover the rising incidents of mob lynching.
MuzaffarpurSSP Manoj Kumar Sinha has ordered for closure of the case as the investigationso far revealed that allegations were levelled against the accused out of "mischief"and "lacked substance".
It maybe mentioned here that an FIR was lodged at the Sadar police station on October3, upon the order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate who had forwarded a petitionfiled by a local advocate.
Theletter was written by eminent personalities like filmmakers Mani Ratnam, AnuragKashyap, Shyam Benegal, actor Soumitra Chatterjee as well as vocalist ShubhaMudgal in July this year.
