Release Date & Where to Watch

The Hunt: The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case will begin streaming on Sony LIV from July 4, 2025.

Plot Summary

Inspired by journalist Anirudhya Mitra’s investigative book Ninety Days, the series presents a fictionalized account of the events surrounding Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination on May 21, 1991, during a public rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.

The show follows the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which was formed in the aftermath of the attack to unravel the deep-rooted conspiracy and identify those behind the suicide bombing. Led by IPS officer D.R. Kaarthikeyan, the SIT's journey takes them across borders — from Tamil Nadu to Sri Lanka — as they uncover the role of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in orchestrating the brutal act.

The series doesn’t just revisit historical facts but builds on them with political tension, emotional gravity, and a thriller-like pace. It offers an intimate look into the complexities of investigative work and the ethical dilemmas faced by law enforcement officers during such high-stakes cases.
