Assam and North East India are going to be under the influence of heavy rains due to the cyclone Fani, and it will be more on May 4 & 5.
Accordingto the local met office, under theimpact of cyclone 'Fani,' which is developing over the Bay of Bengal, therainfall activities over the NE region would get intensified on May 4 and 5,resulting in heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places overAssam-Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh Meteorological Sub-divisions on both thedays.
However,the NE region will start feeling the impact of 'Fani' from the afternoon of May3. Already the rain has lashed the whole area for the past 48 hours, and theAssam Government has taken precaution for possible flood due to the storm.
Sourcesinformed that normal pre-monsoon rainfall activities are likely to occur atmany places over Assam-Meghalaya on May 1 and 2, while on May 3, 4 and 5,rainfall would be widespread over this Meteorological Sub-division.
Alongwith the gusty rain wind with speed varying between 30 to 40 kmph will also bethere.
It needsmention here that according to the India Meteorology Department (IMD) bulletin,cyclone 'Fani' is very likely to move nearly northward during the next sixhours and north-northeastward after that.
It isvery likely to cross the Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali in Puriregion in the afternoon of May 3, with a sustained wind speed of 170 to 180kmph gusting to 200 kmph.
Theimpact of the 'Fani' would be felt in this region because under its influence,and the southwesterly wind would carry more moisture to the area, which willresult in an intensification of the rainfall activities, said the RMC sources.
Trains cancelled
Given thesevere Cyclone Fani over the East Coast, the Northeast Frontier Railway todayannounced the cancellation of six long-distance trains.
The 12508Silchar-Thiruvananthapuram Central Express, the 12514 Guwahati-SecunderabadExpress and the 15929 Tambaram-Dibrugarh Express have been cancelled. Thesethree trains were scheduled to depart tomorrow from their respective points ofdeparture.
Besides,the 12507 Thiruvananthapuram-Silchar Central Express which was scheduled forMay 7, the 12513 Secunderabad-Guwahati Express which was scheduled to depart onMay 5 and the 15930 Dibrugarh-Tambaram Express which was scheduled for May 5have also been cancelled.
