After Golaghat Bottle Incident, BJYM Hits the Streets in Guwahati
Members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, staged a protest in Guwahati on Tuesday, condemning the alleged attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy in Golaghat. The protest, held outside the BJP’s Norakasur Mandal office in Christianbasti, briefly disrupted traffic as workers blocked the road and raised slogans against the Congress.
The incident that sparked the protest occurred on Monday in Golaghat, where a water bottle was reportedly thrown at the Chief Minister’s vehicle near the district Congress office. The BJP has strongly condemned the act, calling it a “shameful and deliberate provocation” and blaming the Congress for the incident.
In response, BJYM workers staged a symbolic blockade, sitting on the road and demanding immediate action against those responsible. Over a hundred party members participated in the demonstration, which was marked by high-pitched sloganeering and a charged atmosphere.
While the protest remained largely peaceful, brief pushing and shoving took place between some protesters and the police as security personnel tried to clear the road and restore traffic movement. No injuries were reported.
BJYM leaders, addressing the gathering, accused the Congress of attempting to incite political instability through such acts. “Attacking the Chief Minister’s convoy is not just an insult to the government but a direct threat to Assam’s democratic values,” said a BJYM spokesperson.
The BJP has warned of continued agitation across the state if the culprits in the Golaghat incident are not identified and brought to justice promptly.
Police maintained a heavy presence in the Christianbasti area throughout the day to ensure the situation remained under control. Traffic was restored soon after the protest dispersed.
