Employee Impersonated as Bride: Guwahati Matrimonial Racket Exposed

In a major breakthrough, Guwahati Police have detained Rishikesh Gayan, accused of orchestrating a fraudulent matrimonial racket under the name The Royal Wedding Matrimonial Consultant. Gayan allegedly used female staffers to pose as prospective brides, cheating clients out of money through false marriage promises. He has also been booked for physically assaulting a woman employee, following which he was taken into custody.

The arrest comes amid a larger investigation into two matrimonial consultancies operating in the city—The Royal Weddings Matrimonial Consultant and Saat Phere Matrimonial Centre—both accused of duping clients and exploiting employees. A former staff member has come forward with explosive allegations, prompting a formal police inquiry.

Former Employee Blows the Whistle

The case came to light after Chhayasmita Senapati, a former Sales Executive at The Royal Weddings Matrimonial Consultant, filed an FIR at Dispur Police Station earlier this week. Senapati, who worked at the firm for over a year, alleged that the company was involved in systematic fraud, taking payments from clients under the guise of matchmaking but failing to deliver any legitimate services.

In her complaint, she stated that female staff were presented as potential brides and made to interact with multiple grooms to mislead them. She claimed clients were repeatedly introduced to the same "bride" to extract payments under false pretenses.

Senapati further revealed that her personal photos and social media accounts were misused by the company to attract clients. “My identity was used without consent to make misleading promises,” she said.

Detained, Threatened Inside Office

Matters worsened on June 29, when Senapati confronted the management about these illegal activities. She alleged that she was detained inside the company’s office on the 3rd floor of Aditya Tower in Dispur, her phone taken away, and was forced to write a declaration and record a video stating she would not take legal action against the firm.

She has named Pinki Gayan and Urmi Mala Gayan, the owners of The Royal Weddings, as the primary accused in the FIR. According to Senapati, she was also threatened with consequences if she chose to go public or approach authorities.

Unpaid Dues and Continued Harassment

The former employee also claimed the company withheld her dues, which included a ₹17,000 monthly salary and ₹4,000 in incentives. Despite repeated follow-ups, the payment was never made, and instead, she was allegedly subjected to intimidation.

Police Probe Underway

So far, no official response has been issued by the owners or representatives of either matrimonial consultancy. However, the matter is under active investigation by Dispur Police, who are looking into both the financial fraud and the assault allegations.

With Rishikesh Gayan’s arrest and the mounting evidence provided by whistleblowers like Senapati, authorities are now uncovering what appears to be a well-organized scam disguised as a legitimate matrimonial service.

“I request the police to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure justice is served,” Senapati wrote in her complaint.

The case has raised serious questions about the credibility of some private matchmaking firms operating without regulation—turning what should be a trusted, sensitive service into a tool for exploitation and deceit.
