The Basistha Police and Jorabat Police on Thursday night jointly intercepted a truck carrying a large consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at the Jorabat Naka Checking Point on the Assam-Meghalaya border. The vehicle was reportedly headed from Guwahati to Aizawl, Mizoram.
The operation was conducted based on a specific input regarding the illegal movement of liquor. During the search, police apprehended two individuals identified as Kobir Hussain Laskar (23), the driver of the truck and Milon Hussain Laskar (22), the handyman.
The truck, bearing registration number AS 01 RC 7957, was found to be loaded with a huge quantity of IMFL, which included liquor brands that are strictly permitted for sale only within Meghalaya. The suspects failed to produce any legal documents pertaining to the sale, purchase, or transportation of the consignment.
The seized items include:
151 cartons of Royal Stag Deluxe Whisky, each containing 12 bottles of 750 ml, totaling 1,812 bottles.
9 cartons of Royal Parrys Whisky, each containing 12 bottles of 180 ml, totaling 108 bottles.
A case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Excise Act, and further investigation is underway.
