Manipur Insurgent Produced in NIA Court in Guwahati Over Deadly Attack on IRB Post

Thangminlen Mate, also known as Lenin Mate, a dreaded insurgent from Manipur, was produced before a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Guwahati on Monday.

As per sources, Mate was produced before the Court of the Special Judges, in Guwahati, in connection with a deadly militant attack on Indian security forces earlier this year.

Mate, who was arrested in Silchar on May 19, 2025, is a member of the Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal (KIT), a banned insurgent group operating in Manipur. He is accused of being directly involved in a January 17, 2024, attack on an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) post in Manipur's Moreh, which resulted in the death of two jawans.

Sources confirm that the NIA has also arrested two more individuals linked to the same incident. All three accused, including Thangminlen Mate, are currently lodged in Guwahati Central Jail under NIA custody as the investigation continues.
