‘Now You Eat Pork’: Hate Note, Meat Packet Dumped Outside Guwahati Mosque

A highly sensitive incident has come to light in Guwahati’s Panjabari area, where a packet allegedly containing pork was found dumped outside a mosque, triggering concerns of a potential communal flare-up. The incident occurred at the mosque located on Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Path in Puran Basti, under Dispur Police Station.

According to sources, unidentified miscreants left a transparent plastic packet at the entrance gate of the mosque. The packet reportedly contained raw pork and had a note attached to it, written in a mix of Assamese and English. The message read: (Translation: ".......You got me pregnant. Now you eat pork. From Plabita Das...")

The packet also had the word “PORK” written prominently and included a mobile phone number.

Following the discovery, a team from Dispur Police reached the site and initiated an investigation. The suspicious packet has been seized, and authorities have begun forensic examination of the contents and handwriting. The mobile number mentioned in the note is also being verified.

The incident comes just days after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned against acts of provocation involving religious sentiments. Speaking to the media last week, the Chief Minister had stated:

“We have to stop these people from this business of throwing beef, else others will start placing pork at different places. We don’t want any of this to happen.”

He had urged citizens to refrain from such acts, warning that placing meat offensive to one religious group near their places of worship could lead to retaliatory actions and disturb communal harmony.

“Those who are doing it should understand that if Hindus don't like one form of meat, the Muslims also do not prefer another type… If beef is thrown in front of temples and namghars, what will they do if pork is placed in front of mosques?” Sarma had questioned.

The Chief Minister also highlighted that several incidents of illegal cattle slaughter had been reported during Bakrid across the state, with over 60 arrests made — more than 50 of them in Dhubri district — for allegedly attempting to provoke communal unrest by dumping beef and cattle parts near Hindu religious sites.

The latest incident in Guwahati has raised alarm among residents, who have appealed to the administration to maintain peace and prevent any escalation.

Meanwhile, security has been tightened around religious places in Guwahati, and local intelligence units have been put on high alert to prevent any further provocation.

The situation remains tense but under control, police said. Further updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
