Several people with the help of Police and Village Defence Party (VDP) on Sunday carried out crackdown against illicit liquor in various localities of Numaligarh and seized around 2000 liters of hooch.
They launched the crackdown in areas like Madhabpur, Narayanpur, Bishnupur and Ponka under Numaligarh and later destroyed the seized liquor. The illicit liquor traders have absconded from the areas prior to the crackdowns. Several cases have been registered following the seizure.
As many as 162 people have died so far and threatening to touch 200 in the country's worst hooch tragedy.
