241 Youth Receive Job Letters in Guwahati as Sonowal Joins PM Modi Virtually

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed the 16th edition of the nationwide Rozgar Mela via videoconferencing, distributing over 51,000 appointment letters to newly recruited candidates across various government departments. Joining the initiative from Guwahati, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal handed over letters to 241 appointees from institutions such as Indian Railways, AIIMS, BSF, and Oil India Limited.

Addressing the new recruits, Modi said the event marked the beginning of a new chapter of responsibility and public service for thousands of young Indians. He underscored the government’s focus on both public and private sector employment, highlighting a raft of welfare and development schemes that have contributed to large-scale job creation across the country.

“Today, more than 51,000 youths have been given appointment letters. Through such employment fairs, millions have already secured permanent government jobs. These young individuals are now playing a vital role in nation-building,” said Modi.

Demography & Democracy: India’s Twin Strengths

The Prime Minister called India’s youth its “greatest capital” and said that the world now acknowledges two of India’s infinite powers — its population of young people and its democratic framework. “In every country I visited during my recent five-nation tour, the potential of India’s youth resonated strongly,” he said.

Modi noted that the agreements signed on defence, energy, rare earths, pharmaceuticals, and digital technology during his overseas visits would create long-term opportunities for Indian youth, both domestically and abroad.

Private Sector Job Push: ₹15,000 Incentive for First-Time Hires

In a significant announcement, Modi spoke about the recently approved Employment Linked Incentive Scheme, under which the government will contribute ₹15,000 towards the first salary of any young person getting their first job in the private sector.

“The government has earmarked nearly ₹1 lakh crore for this initiative. We expect around 3.5 crore new jobs to be created under the scheme,” he said.

Boost in Manufacturing, Electronics, and Defence

Highlighting the government’s efforts to promote domestic manufacturing, Modi said the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme alone has created over 11 lakh jobs. He added that the mobile and electronics sector has expanded more than fivefold in the past 11 years, with mobile phone manufacturing growing from just 2-4 units to nearly 300 units nationwide.

He also praised the rise in defence manufacturing, which has crossed ₹1.25 lakh crore, and said India is now the largest locomotive manufacturer globally. The automobile sector, he noted, attracted $40 billion in foreign direct investment in the last five years, creating new factories, jobs, and record vehicle sales.

Welfare Schemes Fuel Rural Employment

Citing an International Labour Organization (ILO) report, Modi said over 90 crore Indians have been brought under welfare coverage in the last decade. “These schemes are not just about subsidies—they’re engines of employment,” he added.

Modi detailed how schemes like PM Awas Yojana, Swachh Bharat, Ujjwala Yojana, and Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana have generated employment in sectors like construction, logistics, plumbing, solar installation, and technical services.

He also spoke about Namo Drone Didi and Lakhpati Didi initiatives that have empowered women through training, financial inclusion, and rural entrepreneurship. Over 1.5 crore women have already become “Lakhpati Didis,” he said.

“These opportunities are transforming lives. Without employment, 25 crore people could not have come out of poverty in the last 10 years,” said the Prime Minister.

Sonowal: Youth Must Rise Beyond Jobs

Addressing the event in Guwahati, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal echoed the Prime Minister’s vision, urging the newly appointed youth to view themselves not as mere employees but as partners in nation-building.

“Under Modi ji’s leadership, India has opened new pathways in startups, defence, and digital innovation. These jobs are not just career milestones — they are national duties,” Sonowal said.

He added that flagship policies like Make in India and Skill India are not only addressing the needs of today but also preparing the country’s workforce for future challenges. “It is our shared responsibility to safeguard our rich heritage, drive inclusive growth, and ensure that India emerges as a global example of unity and innovation,” he said.

About the Rozgar Mela

The 16th Rozgar Mela was conducted across 47 locations nationwide. Since its inception, over 10 lakh appointment letters have been handed out under the initiative, covering ministries such as Railways, Home Affairs, Health & Family Welfare, Posts, Finance, and Labour & Employment.

The initiative is part of the Centre’s larger mission to fast-track recruitment and empower youth with dignified employment opportunities across India’s growing economic sectors.

As the event concluded, Modi left the new recruits with a powerful message rooted in service: “Treat every citizen as divine — Nagrik Devo Bhava. Step into your roles with commitment, and together, we can shape a future of shared prosperity and pride.”
