No threat to Assamese medium Schools : Edu Minister

Reacting to the issue of closure of 5989 government schools in Assam Education Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya asked what the school should do if it has ten students and five teachers.

He added there are various sentiments attached to the Assamese medium schools and the government cannot do anything if the people don't send their children's to government schools.

"We have not closed the schools but a few have been amalgamated. This does not mean that the Assamese medium schools are at thereat" he said.

He also asked who is causing threat to the mother language if the parents don't sent their children to Assamese schools. The Managing Committee's of schools are cautious about the issue but do not send their children's to Assamese medium schools. He also said that there is no law regarding who should send their children's to Assamese or any other medium schools.

In Lakhipur 473 schools, in Dhuburi 452,  471 in Barpeta, 279 in Baksa, 138 in Bongaigaon, 248 in Cachar, 139 in Chirang, 108 in Darang, 156 in Dhemaji, 313 in Dibrugarh, 27 in Dima Hasao, 187 in Goalpara, 320 in Golaghat, 218 in Hailakandi, 370 in Jorhat, 140 in Kamrup (M), 272 in Kamrup(R), 25 in Karbi Anglong, 128 in Karimganj, 224 in Kokrajhar, 128 in Morigaon, 343 in Nogaon, 165 in Nalbari, 281 in Sivsagar,162 in Sonitpur, 145 in Tinsukia and 138 schools in Udalguri  are ruduced  due to amalgamation.

In 2012 during the Congress regime the then Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appointed 26110 TET employees in a revolutionary step. According to reports in 2018, 80175 government school students have left schools. 479 lower primary and 95 high school are to be shut down by the government due to insufficient students and teachers.
