The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has celebrated its 34th foundation day on Monday by showcasing the strength of regional forces at Uttar Abhyapuri in Bongaigaon district.
Addressing the gathering, former Assam chief minister and senior AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta claimed that the central government doesn't give attention to regional problems.
"Before election, the party proclaimed that they will safeguard the Jati, Mati, Bheti (the identity, land, and property) of the indigenous communities of Assam. Today, the party amended the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 opening Assam's borders to Bangladeshis" : Mahanta said.
He also criticised theBJP-led coalition in the state for the sorry state of affairs of the papermills and sugar mills.
"Those who left AGP to join BJP, are willing to return now…need to strengthen the oldest regional party" : Mahanta added.
