Ajit Bhuyan in Trouble? Vigilance Cell Seeks to Prosecute MP
The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (CM’s SVC) has filed a comprehensive 240-page chargesheet before the Special Judge's Court against Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Bhuyan and nine others, alleging large-scale financial irregularities in the execution of government-funded development schemes.
According to the CM’s SVC, the investigation spanned 44 project sites, revealing serious anomalies. At 22 locations, no construction work was carried out despite the release of sanctioned funds. In 17 other cases, partial work was executed, while contractors allegedly misappropriated public money through inflated and forged bills.
The chargesheet also includes allegations of disproportionate assets against MP Ajit Bhuyan. The state government has already approached the President of India seeking sanction to prosecute the sitting parliamentarian. Officials stated that once the approval is granted, the case is expected to move into a critical legal phase.
The chargesheet further names two Assam Civil Service (ACS) officers, an accountant, and seven secretaries of local construction and scheme implementation committees.
A senior official involved in the investigation remarked, “The evidence points to systemic abuse of public funds under the guise of developmental schemes. This is only the beginning; more layers may unfold as the case progresses.”
The case is being closely monitored by top officials, with further legal action contingent on receiving the requisite presidential sanction for prosecuting the MP.
