AJYCP Stages Protest in Lakhimpur

The AssamJatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Lakhimpur unit has staged protest atLakhimpur after Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Retired Brigadier Dr. BD Mishraon Wednesday said that the Lower Subansiri Hydro-Electric Project constructedby National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) will be resume its work.

The AJYCPburnt the effigy of NHPC at Thekeraguri in the bank of Subansiri.

The AllAssam Students' Unit (AASU), North Lakhimpur unit has also protested againstthe statement made by Brigadier Mishra on Friday in the main Chariali of NorthLakhimpur town and also burnt the dummy of NHPC.

On Wednesdaylast, Brigadier Mishra said in the Arunachal Pradesh State Assembly that therewas no legal problems with regard to the completion of the construction of thecontroversial LSHEP at a time when a case against is under trial in the NationalGreen Tribunal. Mishra has made the statement which is considered to be thesign of Union Government's move towards resumption of the big dam which isprojected to generate 2000 Mega Watt (MW) electricity.
