APCC Demands PM’s Visit to Assam

TheAssam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) alleged that the Central Government hasnot considered flood and erosion problem of Assam as the burning problem andthat it has not taken the matter seriously.

Addressinga press conference at New Delhi, Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi and APCCPresident Ripun Bora said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has no time tovisit Assam to take stock of the worsening flood situation in the state.

Boththe Congress leaders alleged that the Centre has not even the entire amount ofSDRF but has only released half of the amount of Rs. 251crores.

APCCalso demanded that the Prime Minister should visit the state to take stock ofthe situation and that the Centre should release the remaining amount of SDRFscheme.

Allegingthat the state government has not provided the required amount of reliefmaterial to the flood victims, APCC demanded that the victims shouldimmediately be provided with relief materials who are living in the reliefcamps.

TheCongress leaders also raised the issue of National Register of Citizens' (NRC)and opposed the government's decision of moving to the Supreme Court seekingmore time for publishing of the final NRC scheduled on July 31. They reiteratedthat the Supreme Court has asked the NRC authorities to publish the final NRCone year ago and moving to the top court ahead of the publishing of NRC is aconspiracy made by the government.

APCCPresident Ripun Bora also alleged that the BJP doesn't want NRC to be publishedas they want it to publish after the amendment of the Citizenship Bill.
