Artificial flooding brought life to a standstill in Assam's Jorabat following heavy rainfall, with the National Highway submerged under two to three feet of water.
The flood has led to massive traffic snarls in the area, with vehicles moving at a crawl and commuters stranded for hours. Jorabat, a key transit point connecting Guwahati to other southern parts of Assam and Meghalaya, has become increasingly prone to such waterlogging incidents, raising public concern and frustration about poor drainage infrastructure and urban planning.
According to reports, vehicular movement has been diverted through the nearby bridge to manage the situation and ease congestion. The bridge is being used for southbound traffic, serving as a temporary alternative route until the water levels recede.
Locals expressed frustration over the recurring nature of these floods. "Every year, we are faced with the same situation. The drainage system is unable to handle even a single spell of heavy rain", they complained.
With the monsoon season intensifying, authorities are expected to implement long-term flood mitigation measures to prevent further disruptions and hazards in Jorabat.
