Assam Government is planning to spend Rs 800 crore per year under the Arundhati scheme through which every bride of Assam is to be given 1 Tola gold free.
Addressing a press conference Assam Health Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in Assam in average three lakh marriages take place every year in Assam and out that he hoped two lakhs would be registered, and with a simple calculation he said that about 800 crore should be needed for these two lakh marriages.
Mr. Sarma also said that the aim of the scheme is to reduce child marriage so that every marriage has to register and if it has to be registered than the minimum age of 18 for a bride and 21 for a groom has to be maintained.
Mr Sarma also informed that the money would directly go to the account of the bride, not the groom and the entire scheme will start showing or actually will start functioning from February of the next year.
This decision was approved by Assam cabinet last night and it was strategically placed before the people of Assam before the passing of CAB.
