Assam Association Singapore celebrated Rongali Bihu

Rongali Bihu, the harvest festival of Assam, is celebrated with the beginning of the Assamese New Year.  On April 27, the Assamese community got together to herald and celebrate the advent of spring. Assam Association Singapore celebrated Rongali Bihu in Singapore. This celebration is its 6th edition of coming together to form an association and share the common thread of their motherland in a foreign soil.

After a month-long preparation of rehearsals, practices and planning, the final day shows its success with a long but tight list of cultural programs including Drama, Songs, dance and of course Bihu dance. One of the main attractions was a Bihu dance by Sahbam who is a renowned Bollywood dancer. Another was a Fashion Show, a line-up of around 20 beautiful Assamese girls depicting the various assamese dresses took part.

In Singapore , the star-studded celebration started with the jatiyo sangeet "O bur Apunar Dekh". In its opening speech, Assam Association Singapore President, Mr. Dilip Borthakur wished a happy rongalibihu to all the Assamese community.

The hall was packed with all Assamese people and the programme received overwhelming response from them. The presence of hundreds of people made the occasion more beautiful.

General Secretary, Mr. Sohel Arnool said, "We have improved a lot in terms of quality of the event and in terms of no of people who participated in the event. Currently there have more than 300 Assamese people living in Singapore".

Delicious food, which is an important part of the celebration, was served to everyone.
