According to a report by the PTI, historical sources suggest Konwar was implicated in an October 10, 1942 incident when a train carrying British soldiers derailed at Sarupathar railway station in the Golaghat district of the state killing one thousand soldiers. The martyr, who was highly influenced by Mahatma Gandhi as a student, was hanged to death on the dawn of June 15, 1943, at 3.30 am at age 38.
