Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the residence of an elderly couple who was murdered on October 26. He assured the guilty will be given strict punishment and the case will be resolved soon.
The Chief Minister also interacted with the family members of the deceased couple and said that most of the evidence has been collected and the investigation will be completed soon. He said that the law and order enforcement agencies are waiting for the forensic evidence and based on it interrogations and other procedures will follow.
The minister also expressing his grief stated that it is such an act of crime is an unfortunate and concerning situation for any civilised society.
Meanwhile, one suspect has been arrested in connection to the ghastly murder of the elderly couple on Tuesday morning at their Beltola residence has been arrested by Guwahati police.
The detainee Akash Choudhury, the caretaker of the elderly couple, has been arrested. Earlier on Tuesday, Choudhury and his wife were detained in suspect of the murders of Noni Gopal Baruah (87) and Mina Baruah (76). Besides, two other suspects Satyendra Singh and Paresh Choudhury have been detained for interrogation. Singh was present at the victims' residence on Monday night.
On Wednesday, Guwahati police have detained two more persons. The detainees were identified as Buddhdeb alias Babul and Joon Saikia.
A joint investigation led by Guwahati Police, Crime Branch, and Assam CID, is underway and Assam Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), G.P. Singh, stated that based on the initial investigation, he is positive, the case will be solved at the earliest.
As per reports, a sharp weapon was used to attack the elderly couple. They were found lying dead on their bed by the caretakers in the morning. According to the caretakers, the grills of the window were broken and they suspected the murder occurred during an incident of robbery.
