Assam declares public holiday on Srimanta Sankardeva’s tithi

The Assam Government has declared September 11, 2018 as a Public Holiday on account of Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva. This day marks the death anniversary of the Vaishnavite saint-scholar.

All the financial institutions and co-operative banks etc., within the state, will remain closed on account of the public holiday under NI Act.

The order of the holiday has come from the Governor's office.

Therefore, Tuesday will be considered as a bank holiday. In India not all public holidays are classified as bank holidays. Those holidays that are declared by Central/State Governments/ Union Territory under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act, 1881, are considered as a bank holiday.

In addition to national holidays, state governments declare public holidays on local festivals depending on religious and linguistic demographics, each year.
