The conference was held to discuss the present law and order situation in the state.

Chief Minister Sarma said that the SPs conference discussed ways to firm up robust strategies for their handling including efficient investigations.

The Chief Minister in a tweet said, "Prudent policing is vital for good governance. Glad to be joining SPs of @assampolice at a day long deliberation to review law & order and brainstorm on internal issues, and firm up robust strategies for their handling including efficient investigations."

Prior to the start of the conference, CM Sarma also received Guard of Honour from an Assam Police contingent.

Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog also attended the conference.

Notably, Assam Police has launched a crusade against illegal drug trade in the State.

Over the last few weeks, drug traders and smugglers in hundreds have been arrested and massive consignments of contraband items have been seized in different parts of the State.

In May, 2439 grams of heroin, 91 kgs of ganja, 17551 bottles of cough syrup, around 1.57 lakh methamphetamine tablets and 14.16 grams of morphine were seized.

Over 1000 people have been arrested and 618 cases registered since the crackdown on drugs began in January.

It may be mentioned that BJP MP Ramen Deka also made a shocking statement against former Dhubri SP and current Nagaon SP Anand Mishra who won hearts and went viral in social media for his praiseworthy works during his tenure as SP in Dhubri. Deka also called for an NIA investigation against him saying that the image of Mishra is synthetic and media-oriented.
