Assam Floods-Nagaon finds relief as waters recede, 24,000 people still affected

As flood waters have receded from Nagaon district, the Assam floods situation is improving as only three districts remain troubled by the deluge, said Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

Lakhimpur is the worst flood-hit state with 21,200 affected people, followed by Dhemaji with 2500 people. The authorities in both these districts are running three relief camps and distributions centers where 1,975 people are taking shelter.

On Monday, 24,000 people were reportedly affected by the flood in four districts namely, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath and Nagaon. With no fresh reports of casualties, the death count in Assam due to the deluge stands at 33.

According to ASDMA reports, 858 hectares of standing crop land, 959 hectares and 30 villages have been submerged in floods so far.

The Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger mark in many places like Nemstighat in Jorhat and Dhubri, Dikhow river in Dibrugarh, and Dhansiri.
