Assam Must Oust 'Chacha-Mama' Duo for Peace: Akhil Gogoi

Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi has called for the political ouster of what he dubbed the “chacha-mama duo”—a scathing reference to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal—asserting that true peace and justice will elude Assam until both leaders are thrown out.

“Unless we bid farewell to the chacha-mama politics of Assam, there will be no liberation for any community,” Gogoi declared at a massive public rally in Salmara, Goalpara district, after visiting eviction-hit areas in Bilasipara and Goalpara.

With 2026 state elections looming, Gogoi’s rhetoric was sharp, direct, and deeply critical of both the ruling BJP and its perceived ally in vote-bank politics, the AIUDF. He accused Sarma and Ajmal of jointly sustaining a political ecosystem that thrives on division, displacement, and the marginalisation of Assam’s most vulnerable communities.

“For lasting peace in Assam, both BJP and AIUDF must be thrown out—together,” he said.

Evictions as a Weapon of Fear

Gogoi also tore into the BJP government’s ongoing eviction drives, calling them a form of state-sponsored ethnic persecution. Comparing the situation to Nazi Germany, he alleged that Muslims, Boro, Rabha, Karbi, and other communities are being systematically uprooted from their land under the guise of development.

“Today, Assam is no longer governed by the Constitution. It’s ruled by fear, evictions, and corporate greed. This is not governance—this is jungle raj,” he said.

According to Gogoi, these evictions are not about public interest but are instead orchestrated land clearances to benefit corporate behemoths like Adani, Ambani, and Ramdev’s trusts. He described the government's actions as modern-day colonialism, recalling how British-era land transfers left Assam with no real gain.

“Our land is being sold in the name of progress. The names have changed, but the exploitation continues,” he said.

Congress Under Fire: Unite or Perish

While the BJP bore the brunt of his criticism, Gogoi didn’t spare the Congress either. He warned the grand old party that its indecision and reluctance to forge an opposition alliance could cost it dearly in the upcoming elections.

“If Congress doesn’t ally with Raijor Dal, it won’t win even a single seat in Upper Assam,” Gogoi cautioned, singling out Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi for political inaction.

He further warned voters not to place blind trust in Congress, accusing it of historical neglect.

“Even after decades in power post-Independence, Congress never resolved the core issues of the poor, landless, or Muslim minorities in Assam,” he said.

Gogoi then laid out his party’s alternative vision: if a united opposition coalition forms the government in 2026, Raijor Dal promises to grant land titles to every landless citizen within a year and ensure complete irrigation coverage across the state within five years.

“But none of this is possible without full opposition unity. Congress must stop sitting on the fence and join hands with regional forces to rescue Assam,” he urged.
